The Day I Became the Unit Pandit @ Pokhran!
At Pokhran firing ranges, our unit had a simple tradition—no firing without a pooja. When the unit Pandit suddenly had to rush home, the CO looked around the mess and made an unexpected decision. A young Christian officer chewing on a chicken bone and sipping rum was suddenly appointed the unit Pandit for the next day’s ceremony. What followed was a night of rum-fuelled mantra lessons, failed attempts at blowing a conch shell, and one unforgettable lesson in the spirit of the Indian Army.
